I LOVE drugstores. Seriously. CVS, Walgreens, ect…are like mysterious caverns of un earthed treasures and I can spend literally hours in there. See how exciting my life is?

Here are some products that made their way home with me and now are on my must have list for ever.

If your anything like me, you have the dexterity of a 3 year old on a 3 day sugar high when applying any sort of eye makeup. Have no fear-Almay Oil-Free Makeup Eraser Sticks are here. Made all natural with aloe, cucumber and green tea, these little sticks only remove the mistakes. $6.00

Organix is orgasmic when it comes to the most delightful smelling hair and skin products. I discovered them when I needed a hair de-frizzer that wouldn’t make me look like I hadn’t bathed in 4 years. I have tried every product they have (easy to do at only $5.00 or less a pop) and found that they Coconut Milk line is not only made my hair look the best it has in years, but the fresh coconut smell is divine without being overwhelming.

I love mascara but most I have found are too thick and I end up with clumpy lashes and raccoon eyes. L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara goes on smooth and with just the right amount of color and consistency that all I need is one application. $5.00

Name brands are great but when you can get the same thing at a lesser price…well that’s better then great. CVS Foaming Cleanser is a perfect example. It cuts through even the heaviest makeup but doesn't strip the skin of its natural oils. $6.00

Summer is Florida are FIERCE so I need a much lighter foundation for my face. Maybelline Pure make up is perfect. A water-based foundation that gives a lovely sheer coverage and a beautiful glow. No oil means no breakouts. $5.00

Saturday Stimulation-It’s New York Fashion Week- Fall 2012

NYFW started off with a bang with it’s annual Red Dress Collection fashion show, an NYFW event that aims to draw attention to women's heart health by putting celebrity cat walkers in a parade of gowns by some of the country's most famous designers.

The trend this years seems to continue with colorblocking, which is hitting red carpets and magazines as we speak. BCBG Max Azria and Richard Chai Love kept colors basic and used hardly any embellishment, turning out straightforward, wearable clothes. There are more flamboyant moments to come, I’m sure, but fashion is, after all, the marriage of art and commerce. Of course, there's the celebrity element, too, and Tadashi Shoji took care of red carpet looks with his Shanghai-visits-Hollywood gowns.

Dozens of shows are planned at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week tents with another 12, Tory Burch, presenting their shows elsewhere on the Lincoln Center campus.

Here are some looks from Day 1.

BCBG MAX AZRIA continues the colorblocking trend that's already making its way to red carpets and magazine covers for the spring season, but there was also a muting of colors. Neon pink became a muted coral here, and purple a mellow merlot. Embellishment was sparse.

Richard Chai turned menswear into powerful looks for women with top coats, tweed jackets and pinstripe pants for female customers, and retooled trousers in his men's clothes to be slimmer and shorter than most guys are used to. The women looked put together in their mostly gray-and-black blazers and button-down shirts. There were flashes of femininity as Chai also offered some sheer layers and pieces in a delicate red floral print, a contrast to all the tailoring.

TADASHI SHOJI sent a parade of gowns down the catwalk. Nothing overly complicated or particularly edgy, but glamorous with a hint of sexy. A flame-red washed velvet gown had a dramatic cowl back filled with black beading, and ball gown with a gold-and-black beaded lace bodice had the full Cinderella treatment for its skirt.

I’m so excited to be part of Shiloh Walker’s blog tour celebrating the release of her last two book in her Ash Trilogy-If You See Her and If You Know Her.

Each participant in this tour was was allowed to ask one question about the trilogy.

My Question: Your endings to each Ash story were unconventional. Did you expect the extreme reaction to got to it?

Shiloh’s Answer: I figured I'd have some people disgruntled, yes. The only reason this worked was because Ballantine was ready to give me release dates for all three titles so close together. I knew going in that I'd be ending each story in a different sort of way and I was prepared for some…ah…interesting responses. But I really couldn't have done it any other way, if I wanted to give the overall story my absolute best.

From IF YOU KNOW HER…

Nia's hand shook as she reached for her cell phone.

It took three tries to actually get her hands to cooperate long enough to call Bryson. Before her cousin died, Bryson had been Joely's fiancé, and a casual friend of Nia's. The two of them had tried to keep in touch for a while, both Nia and Bryson had finally realized their memories were too painful.

Needless to say, he wasn't pleased to have her on the phone. “Nia…it's late.”

She glanced at the clock, winced when she saw it was past eleven.

“Sorry. This won't take long. I just…ah, well. I had a question. Had Joely gotten her hair cut recently?”

“Her hair? What?”

“Yeah. A hair cut. Had she gotten it cut before she…ah..died?”

He sighed. “No. She hadn't. She wanted it long for the wedding--something…” His voice half broke. “Shit. No. I don't know what the hell this is about, but she hadn't gotten her fucking hair cut.”

“Okay. Thank you.”

He hung up without saying another word.

Nia put her phone down and continued to stare at the report. This didn't mean anything. She waited for that rational voice to murmur an agreement, waited for that voice to tell her to dump this file, just like she had dumped so many others.

But for once, that voice was silent.

Completely and utterly silent.

Stella McCartney talks about leather and why you won’t see it in her shows

It’s well known that Stella McCartney doesn’t use fur in her clothing. It’s only recently that she has made her reasons known for also rejecting leather. McCartney says her piece in a video she made with PETA- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals-timed to coincide with New York Fashion Week. She explains in the video why she stopped using animal skins. Leather isn’t a by-product of the meat industry, she says, but an important co-product that contributes directly to the ills of factory farming.

PETA planned to run a shortened version of the PSA on taxi screens across Manhattan, VeriFone Media, which manages advertising and media programming in nearly 12,000 of the city’s yellow cabs, put the kibosh on PETA’s proposal as swiftly as it was submitted, according to The Discerning Brute’s Joshua Katcher. “It’s illogical that they’re willing to play a promotion selling fashion objects, but if you dare to explain how a fashion object is made, you’re silenced,” he tells ecouterre.com. “The reality of fashion production is not often as beautiful or lucrative as the fairy tale spun about the object afterwards.”
McCartney says her goal isn’t to shame other designers or buyers. “Our aim is not to tell you what to wear but to give you the facts so you can make an informed decision the next time you’re considering buying leather,” she says. “As a designer, I like to work with fabrics that don’t bleed; that’s why I avoid all animal skins,” she says.

WTH Wednesday-Kormen bows to political pressure and cuts off Planned Parenthood

Dear Susan G. Komen Foundation,

Today it came to my attention that you have halted all grants to Planned Parenthood, effectively stopping thousands of mammograms and related services to low income women. Why? These programs save hundreds of lives each year. I have been one of your staunchest supports since age 16 when my mother was first diagnosed with cancer. I have run and walked hundreds of races in your name. I have bugged, bullied, and yes, even cried, to co worker and strangers to get them to donate money to your foundation. I have worn the pink ribbon with pride; happy and proud to be associated with a group that promotes the well being of all woman regardless of race, age, political ties, and economical status. But today you broke my heart. Today you took all my hard work and tossed it to the ground because you choose to placate the right wing rather then stand up for the mission your company proclaims it’s built upon. You remember that mission statement don’t you?

I know you say it’s because Planned Parenthood is under a congressional investigation and you have rules that say they cannot associate with any company under a state or federal investigation. But I can’t help but wonder at the timing of it all. I’m sure it has nothing to do with any pressure from right wing pro life groups and their Republican allies who have announced repeatedly that they will target Planned Parenthood. Of course, it couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact your new Senior Vice President for Public Policy, Karen Handel is pro life? And that she promised during her failed 2010 gubernatorial bid to end grants for Planned Parenthood to provide breast and cervical cancer screenings.

Because that would be wrong. Right?

Wrong or not, this is exactly what it looks like. Planned Parenthood provides lifesaving services to low income women. LOW INCOME WOMEN. Women who without this service would be virtually left swinging in the wind with no access to life saving health care. I find it ironic that your willing to let hundreds of woman suffer and possibly die to support a pro life cause. Planned Parenthood isn’t all about abortions. It has been proven time and time again that only 3% of it’s services are geared towards abortions. The rest is about providing all women with the help and information they need to make uniformed decisions regarding their health. THEIR health. Not yours. Not Karen Handel’s. Not the Republican legistrator who himself was bullied into launching this witch hunt. All your doing is hurting thousands of women, causing unintended pregnancies and delaying needed preventive care.

I am disheartened that your choose to protect your political assets then the lives of the woman who count on you. So for that, I will take my money and skills and give them to Planned Parenthood, where they will be used in the spirit they are given. To promote the welfare of woman rather then pander to your employees political agendas.

That left super sexy man a not so very happy camper. So unhappy that super sexy man refuses to see or talk to Charley. Now Charley is now drinking copious amounts of stolen coffee (cause that’s the best tasting) to avoid sleep because Reyes comes to her in her dreams and does some remarkably blush worthy things to her body. His visits leave her exhausted and hurt. Charley senses the anger Reyes feels and she knows that he doesn’t want to be there with her, doing the things they do. When Charley is given a new missing persons case she figures this is the best way to get Reyes out of her head but when he breaks out of prison with a crazy story that the man he supposedly killed isn’t dead and he wants Charley to find him she realizes that coffee isn’t going to cut it anymore. All the while she is dealing with her guilt ridden father, a nun who “eavesdrops” on the voices in her head, hot scruffy bikers, and a knife welding ghost who likes to pose as a hood ornament.

If you read no other books this year, you must stop and pick up Darynda Jones’s Third Grave Dead Ahead.

Why is it that people think you go through life oblivious to things until they point them out to you? Things that are glaringly apparent to you and the rest of the free world with mere look in the mirror.

Recently I took the kid to the Dr for a check up. Her primary Dr has taken on some new partners and we saw one of them instead. I’m going to be perfectly honest here and say my child is a little overweight. She exercises, eats good, and we have found no inherent problems so we aren’t sure why this is, but it is what it is, though we are still examining causes. On a side note, I believe her being a preemie and some of the steroids they gave her as a child contributed to it.

Anyway-I KNOW she overweight. She KNOWS she is overweight. We are vigilant and working on it. Yet for some reason this new Dr felt the need to point it out, in front of the kid, in a condescending manner that suggested this was a big secret she had to impart to us.

To say I was a little defensive is putting it mildly. First off, I truly despise that false sounding voice that is suppose to inspire comradely but really just sets your teeth on edge. It’s a voice that translates to, “I think your an idiot, so I’m going to use little words and a warm tone so you don’t realize I think your an idiot.”

News flash-I know you think I’m an idiot and guess what? I think your one too. Then, for her to look at me and say, “I’m sure you’ve realized she is overweight and something needs to be done,” made me want to punch her in the throat.

Seriously?

Did you think I didn’t know that? This is my child. I’ve lived with her for 10 years. I know EVERYTHING about her. Sometimes, she tells me more then I want to know. :) If you had bothered to look at her chart you’d know we had been coming here for 6 years and have had multiple tests done, weigh ins, consultations, ect… Your not imparting surprising news to me. The fact she did that in front of my child had me rearing my head back to strike her down in a move worthy of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Sometimes I wonder if some people just weren’t meant to be working with the public. They reek of insecurity and fear, exhibiting a stiffness that just screams, “Kill me!!!! Kill me now because I am so freaking uncomfortable I will socially cut myself off at the knees every time I open my damn mouth.” Now I understand why the doctors are concerned, but to completely ignore the kid’s files before speaking to me shows a lack of communication and caring. Plus, it hurt her feelings.

I proud to say I didn’t not use my powers for evil and fry her arse on the spot, but I did have a talk with her while the kid was occupied and let her know that her bedside manner needed some work. I also let her know that what’s obvious to her is probably obvious to everyone and I didn’t need to know the problem (I get it-trust me) I need solutions.

So in retrospect, if you feel a “Captain Obvious” moment coming on and your need to speak is beginning to over ride your brain screaming for you to STFU, remember what’s obvious to you is also probably obvious to whom you are speaking to.

1. Louis Vuitton hasn’t made a new fragrance since the 1930’s but they have confirmed that they are in the process of making one now. The French fashion house will be working with “master perfumer” Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud on the scent. We can thank Cavallier-Belletrud for Dior Addict, Poeme by Lancôme as well as many others. No release date set but I’m sure it’ll be well worth it’s price.

2. It’s Girl Scout cookie time!! Yes, that time where thousands of earnest little girls, dressed in carbon copy outfits, prey on the weak (like me), hawking these tiny little boxes of goodness. It was announced recently that there is a new cookie called Savannah Smiles.

First Look At Jason Wu for Target Looks Tres Chic

Though the pieces won’t hit the floor or online till 2/5…I have some sneak peeks to help tide you over till the big event.

Jason Wu embodies a feminine classic look. Modern yet timeless. Perfect for any age and able to withstand many seasons. Elegant lines with hints of flirty-ness in the print or swish of the full skirt. So it’s no surprise to see that he has continued this even with his line for Target.

I love the fact that while he doesn’t copy from his runway line, this collection still says in a firm voice, “This was designed by Jason Wu.” The whole line (from what I’ve seen) has a wonderful expensive look to it that is sure to please even the most fickle of fashionistas.

The entire line was inspired by a little black cat named Milu who adorns some of the accessories (I die). The collection has a tres chic French gamine vibe going on. Pleated frocks with sailor-striped hemlines, adorable Peter Pan collars, delicate silk blouses with floppy neck ties, and t-shirts and trench coats with a touch of lace.

DIY Thursday-These gloves are sure to cure any winter blues

All hail McQueen! Keep your manicure out and about, while your palm stays calm and carries on. Alexander McQueen's fingerless gloves inspired these delicious DIY glovettes, created by Erica Domesek with Who What Wear.

To create your own pair, cut the feet off of a pair of socks, which leaves you with a "tube". Cut all of the fingers off minus the thumb then snip off approximately 1/2" of the thumb's fingertip. Make a 1"-vertical slit on the outside of the tube to create the thumb hole. Slide gloves inside the tube, pulling the thumb through the hole. Find two sparkly brooches or buttons and glue thin tube shaped beads with a hot glue gun or super glue. Once dry, pin or sew to the top of the glove.

Humans, also called numps by the residents of Golgotham, don’t understand the residents or magic of Golgotham and tensions rise as prejudice and racism permeate the air.

Sometimes It’s better To say Nothing At All

The internet has become much more then an information highway. It is a way to connect with other people who share similar interests, express our views and thoughts, and share things that we would never tell someone face to face. It offers us a sense of comradely and anonymity even when place our name in the byline. How many times have we read someone's comments only to laugh and joke about them because, after all, they are only words?

Recently I read an article that not only surprised me but left me feeling very sad. Im Not A Perfect Mother. A young mother verbalized her feelings on not being a perfect mother and went on to explain why she may love her son more then her daughter. While I don’t vilify her for her feelings; she’s entitled and I have not walked in her shoes, what I objected to was the fact that she choose to broadcast this to the world.

She posted an update to explain why she did it, the most memorable statement being that her mother favored her brother and as she got older, she and her mother were able to talk about it. It made her mother more human to her. That’s great that she and her mom were able to become friends as adults but her mother didn’t publish her thoughts in a magazine or newspaper. She didn’t write a tell all memoir. She talked to her daughter face to face.

I can’t help but fear that the reasons this blogger had for doing this won’t be enough to justify to her child why the world deserved an explanation before she did.

As some may know, my husband was in a car accident yesterday. Thank you for all your well wishes! A full head on collision that he was able to walk away from. I am VERY thankful that he was not seriously injured and is here for me to make fun of.

He has some bumps, bruises, sprains and a smooshed pinky finger but the Dr has him on some strong pain pills which keeps him nice and pliant. I just thought I would share T’s first day after the accident.

What’s Christmas Without Cookies?

I love Christmas. Gathering with my family, watching my child’s eyes light up when she sees the present from “Santa”, watching football, and cookies. Growing up, my favorite memory of the holidays was waking up each morning to the smells of nutmeg, cinnamon, and all things sugary sweet as my mama did her holiday baking. Baklava, kiflis, chocolate covered pretzels, snicker doodles, and more covered every available surface as my mama rolled, mixed, sprinkled, and packages all before Christmas Day. She always made twice as much because I and my brother managed to sneak more then a few bites of each tempting treat.

1. Three Woman Warriors Win The Nobel Peace Prize

The 2011 Nobel Peace Prize was presented to three activists and political leaders on Saturday for “their nonviolent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights” as peacemakers. The awards were presented to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, 73; her compatriot Leymah Gbowee, 39, a social worker and a peace activist; and Tawakkol Karman, a Yemeni journalist and a political activist who, at 32, is the youngest Peace Prize laureate and the first Arab woman to receive the award.

In a statement announcing the award winners on Oct. 7, the Nobel committee said it hoped the prize would “help to bring an end to the suppression of women that still occurs in many countries.”

Never mind she wears some god awful clothing-the fact she willing went out in public wearing a dress she couldn’t zip close makes me very sad for her.

5. Whew! The Penguins Are Nekkid Again

The penguins that were lovingly clothed in sweaters to prevent them from preening toxins off their feathers following an oil spill near New Zealand are running around nekkid once again. Good Morning America shouwed a video of the more than 300 affected penguins being released back into the wild, now wearing microchips. Each had to pass a "check-up and six hour swim test to show they're regaining their natural water-proofing."

Saturday Stimulation What do H&M and Stieg Larsson have in common?

Not much.

When Stieg Larsson passed away in 2004, he left three unpublished manuscripts that became the bestselling trilogy- The Millennium series. These were all published posthumously, the first one being The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, in 2008. Described as “a spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue”, the entire trilogy took Europe and then the world by storm.

Now, the movie-The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo-also promises to be a similar hit. Releasing 12/11/2011, this noir suspense thriller staring the VERY yummy Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara also shows signs of being a similar success. Take a look at the trailer below.

Lord Of The Abyss is the fourth book and conclusion to the Royal House of Shadow series. Each book in the four book series is based on one sibling who finds their soul mate and their way back to their rightful destiny. I did not read the first three in this series; however that did not deflect in any way my enjoyment of this story. I’m convinced everything Ms. Singh writes is dipped in gold and sprinkled with unicorn dust so this did not disappoint. While some background is given to link it to the other three in the series, this one revolves around one couple and one main conflict so that allows it to be comfortably read as a stand alone.

I’ve never been a fan of companion or insider books. They are usually nothing more then an encyclopedia of recycled facts about the characters. You may learn something new but not enough to justify the often outrageous price. The Hollows Insider was a pleasant surprise. Set up more as a behind the scenes story, it sheds light on the characters and main arc. The Hollows series is told in the first person; from the protagonist’s (Rachael Morgan) point of view. Everything we see and hear is through her. In here we are able to see and hear what Rachael couldn’t.
