Sometimes You Just Have To Let Them Go

Fashions come and go. It's the nature of the beast.
But occasionally some fashions leave then come back like a bad guest.
No matter what you do, they won't die.
Some people like the bad guest and cosset them close to their hearts.
I say stop the madness people.
Sometimes you just have to let it go.

Stir up pants
I think Kurt from Glee summed it up perfectly.
"Because there is never a good reason to wear stir up pants!"

Overall Shorts
Seriously, if your not a toddler or toiling in the fields...LET THEM GO.

Parachute Pants
These didn't even look good on MC Hammer or Vanilla Ice. Why on earth anyone thinks a crotch that drops to your knees is attractive is beyond me.

Pigtails
This only looks good if your a toddler or your stage name is Lotta Suck.

Crocs
This proves my point..

Mullets
The phrase "business in the front-party in the back" should not be used to describe your hair style.

Cartoon Character Clothing
Where are you people buying this from? I haven't seen it sold since the early 90's.
I really don't mind a cute Tweety-but keep it in the house ok?

Shirts As Dresses
Newsflash! If it doesn't cover your butt it's a shirt.
Which means you need to cover that behind up with some pants or a skirt. Hell, I'll even relent and let you wear stir up pants.

My New Book Review Is At Smexy Books

Todays review is Amethyst Destiny by Pamela Montgomerie.

Julia Brodie doesn't know why her Scottish cousin gave her a necklace with the insistence that she NOT try it on till she arrives in America. Being of the curious sort, she tries it on in the Glasgow airport and receives the shock of her life. Transported back in time to 17th century Scotland, Julia is rescued by the handsome Talon MacClure.

This irresistible sexy time travel romance is the second in Ms Montgomerie's Jewels of Time series.

The little black dress.

The LBD is the one essential every woman should own.

Ever since Coco Chanel first introduced this iconic timeless fashion 75 years ago fashion designers everywhere agree that all women need a little black dress.
Simple to complex; the LBD can take you from morning to night with a slight of hand.

When I slip into one of my LBD's I change. I become more confident and self assured.
My legs get longer, my bosom gets bigger, and my butt gets smaller. lol
I can discuss anything with anyone.
Add my vintage pearls and some sexy heels and I am a force to be recognized.

The history of the LBD is interesting in it's timeless appeal and staying power.
In the beginning black was considered acceptable for mourning and was not even allowed outside the home.
Coco Chanel made the LBD famous in 1926. Called "Chanel's Ford" by Vogue magazine, it was a basic slash-necked, short silk dress with only diagonal pin-tucks as decoration

Audrey Hepburn's legendary role as Holly Golightly in Breakfast At Tiffany's brought us  dressed in Givenchy. Voted as the all time best female screen outfit-the original sold for $800,000.00 at auction.
Hepburn's classic black sheath dress, accented by pearls and black kitten heels was as Coco Chanel envisioned.

The LBD then evolved into sexy eye candy when draped over such figures as Marilyn Monroe and Jane Mansfield. Women all over the world fell in love with this simple but elegant dress.

In the 1960's a revolution was taking place over love, war, and the LBD. Women wanted shorter hemlines and sleeker styles. Dresses were featuring cut outs, designs and the material was getting sheerer.

The LBD has survived the the passage of time and has emerged as an ever changing but constant theme. The wildly popular cast of SATC-Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte even posed in LBDs on the cover of season one's DVD proving just that.

I think Wallis Warfield Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor, summed it up best when she said.. "When a little black dress is right, there is nothing else to wear in its place."

My New Book Review Is At Smexy Books

Hey peeps...come check out my newest review  at Smexy Books

Up today is Nancy Gideon's Masked By Moonlight.
A dark and sensual PNR; Masked By Moonlight drags you in and holds you to the last page.

Except from Amazon:
Det. Charlotte Caissie has spent years working homicides for the New Orleans PD. She links a savagely mutilated murder victim to crime boss Jimmy Legere, and suspects Legere's enforcer, Max Savoie, might know more than he's telling about the attack. Max has lusted after Charlotte for years, and after Max saves her from would-be rapists and reveals he's the hero who once rescued her from kidnappers, Charlotte starts to share his feelings. Despite Max's monstrous shape-shifting abilities and probable involvement in her case, they soon surrender to mutual attraction. Charlotte walks a razor-fine line with her professional ethics and romantic life, but Gideon deftly avoids writing herself into corners and masters the tension required to keep her complex and engaging story moving.

Tempting Tuesday-How To a SATC Fashionista

Though I'm not a huge SATC fan, I am a HUGE fan of the fashions. Especially Carrie & Charlotte.
Something about Carrie's (Sarah Jessica Parker) bohemian style and Charlotte's (Kristin Davis) preppy style, Samantha's (Kim Cattrall) sexy cougar style, and Miranda's (Cynthia Nix) CEO career look calls to me.

Sex in the City has turned the 4 HBO stars into fashion icons. Here are a few trends the show has started that are still running strong.

  • Stilettos
  • Must-have designer bags
  • Great coats
  • The bob
  • Flower pins
  • Initial necklaces
  • Designer wedding chic

While I would love to look like them...I need to face facts. I never will. I know they have a very talented crew  and I, alas, have an untalented crew of one. Me.

But it really isn't to hard to adapt some of the style and looks they wear.
One key point of the SATC look is their mix and match approach using key designer pieces with regular everyday pieces.
Carrie often pairs something outrageous and foofy with plain.
Or wear something in a totally different manner then it was meant.

Shoes are a BIG deal. Toss those flip flops ladies...the higher the heel the better.
Higher heels equals longer sleeker legs. And don't forget the manicures.
The woman of SATC would never be caught dead not looking PERFECT!

The Clothing. Now to be a true SATC fashionista you have to be on top of the trends if not slightly ahead. Seriously.
You have to follow the rags, mags, and shows.

Brands that are SATC.

  • Manolo Blahnik
  • Richard Tyler
  • Jimmy Choo
  • Dolce & Gabbana
  • Fendi
  • Dior
  • Blumarine
  • Chanel
  • Chloe
  • Prada
  • Roberto Cavalli

So be prepared to spend some serious CHA-CHING!! However, many of your mall level brands are pulling the look together for little the price.
  • Bebe
  • Banana Republic
  • Alight.com
  • Twenty-One
  • eBay
  • Zappos.com

So there you go my pretties. Your guide to looking like you just stepped off the set of SATC.

Enjoy!

Stimulation Saturday

What's stimulating me this Saturday? Glad you asked.
My coming in the mail as we speak E READER!!!!!
An early present from my mamasita. Squeee!!
Isn't it lovely? So shiny and pretty.
As a avid reader and book reviewer for Smexy Books I have an ARSE of books surrounding me.
That's not including the books on the floor, under the desk, or in various other parts of house.
I'm being slowly forced to use my laptop more because I cannot find my desk.
So I needed to make a choice. Either get rid of books-which will NEVAH happen or find a way to compress them.
VIOLA!! The e reader. As I started searching for the perfect e reader I ran into a lot of choices. Many of my friends own Kindles. Kindles are nice.
I'll admit my first and foremost thought was price. I'm cheap. Andmany of the other readers
had features I don't need or want.

So I found the Sony E Pocket. Perfect for the beginning e reader person.
It can hold up to 350 books.
Converts MULTIPLE formats & that is very important. Sony also allows you to upload books from different sites beyond Sony. Something Kindle has a prob with. You can even borrow from libraries. Sony's partnership with Overdrive opens my e reader up to millions of FREE E BOOKS to borrow from. You keep 21 days then it expires.
No late fees.
No driving in the dead of night to return during a flash flood in your jammies only to find kiosk is jammed and then a police officer stops you and want syou to GET OUT of car and do a sobierty test because only a dummy would be out in the flash flood to return books.
No that it has ever happened to me mind you.

It doesn't have an mp3 player, audio features, or touch screen but that's ok. If and when I want a full featured e reader I'm going with the iPad. That thing RooocKs.

With a back light display, changeable fonts and text size. Plus, it's very lightweight.
WIN=WIN.

I also like the fact that there hasn't be once single report that Sony has entered users e readers and taken a book back. Unlike Amazon that reneges on a regular basis in retaliation of their on going price war with various publishing companies. See below for details.

Amazon's Kindle--Now with New Take-Backsies Feature

I don't like that. When I buy a book I want to keep the book. No take- backsies allowed.
Sony's support of ePub formatting guarantees what I buy stays with me till I release it.

And...check out this wicked skin I bought for it. Decalgirl has some great ones.
All in all this is the perfect little reader for me since I;ll only be using it to read.
Once I get it in my hot little hands, I''ll come back and let you know how it does. :)

What I'm Crushin' On For Friday

What I'm crushin' on for this Friday is Robert Cavelli. His fierce use of color and design gives a wicked edge to his pieces.

Make a bold statement with gold-tone brass coiled serpent ring.
Net-A-Porter $265

Infused with Roberto Cavalli's trademark exotic glamour, this sheer multicolored floral-print silk-chiffon top is a fabulous addition to your wardrobe repertoire.
Net-A-Porter $860

These  chocolate brown plaited leather T-bar sandals are a luxe daytime style that will stamp signature glamour on every look. Slip them on to ground a floaty dress or add polish to weekend denim.

I love white jeans. But it's hard to find a pair that fit well. These white skinny-but-not-spray-on jeans with silver zip fastenings are a contemporary update on the classic denim style. A perfect look for SS10 season.

Products I Lurve

I have decided to devote a day each week or bi weekly to products I lurve. Don't set your calendar on it though.
WTH Wednesday is about the only this I do religiously.

Aveeno Positively Smooth Shower Shave Cream

This 2-N-! body was/shaving cream claims to help you shave less. The wash conditions your skin and softens the hair giving a longer "just shaved" feeling.
Tell you what, IT WORKS!!
I am like King Kong. Dark hair, Slavic background...you get the picture.
So I literally have to shave everyday to look smooth and pretty and not like a hairy cactus.
I also have the absolute most driest skin. My legs look like road maps.
I have been using this for about 2 weeks and it's amazing.

I can actually wait to shave every 3rd day now and my skin looks amazing. Working on the underarms too. wOOT! This version is NOT found in most stores. This can be found on Amazon for $13.99 a bottle.
I purchased every bottle at my local Big Lots for $2.50@. Cha-CHING!!

Le Mer Creme de La Mer

La Mer was developed 40 years ago by Dr. Max Huber.
Renowned for its healing energies, this potent, nutrient-rich ferment helps soothe, nourish and renew the skin, encouraging it to focus on its natural reparative abilities.

I have been using for over 10 years. I have never found another cream that does what this cream does. It leaves my skin dewy soft and I have been told I look years younger then my true age. Amazing for acne, sun, and discoloration spots.
La Mer has 3 different collections:
The Moisture Collection
The Body Collection
The Face Treatment

At the hefty price of $130 to $230 (1ozs-2ozs) it is expensive. But well worth it.
One area of note. The cream is thick. So use sparingly. Sometimes you can score some FAB deals on this on Ebay

My friend Pamela raved about this product so I had her share her thoughts with us.

Clinique's High Shine-to-Go Glosswear Set.

I am a very happy girl with my purchase!

The spectrum of colors in this set are very diverse, and they go on very sheer. You do have the ability to layer to get a little more pigment if you desire. They are very small .03 oz tubes that are easy to put in a pocket and carry around with you.  I had originally intended to give some of these colors away to friends, but I've become greedy and want them all. Since the colors are so sheer, they look good on just about anyone no matter your coloring.

The consistency of lip gloss by its very nature can be tricky. It can be gooey and sticky sometimes in order to come up with that glassy shine we crave. Up until now my two favorites were Stila's Lip Glaze and M.A.C. lipglass. After trying these samples of the Clinique High Shine-to-Go Glosswear Set, I have a new favorite lip gloss! The glosses give a very smooth shine with a hint of color that is perfect for the summer. They are on the slightly sticky side, but less than a lot of popular brands out there in the same price range. When the time comes, it will be hard to pick which color I'll want when the time comes to buy a full-size tube.

This product can be found at Sephora. At $25 for 12 assorted colors, you just can't go wrong!

Thanks Pam!! Pamela "SpazP" can be found Twitter and Goodreads. Look her up. She is fuuuuuuuunnny!

Check back next week for more products I lurve.
Do you have a product you lurve and want to share? Let me know and you can review it and post it here. :)
