Where Were You When The World Stopped?

Remember 9/11/01

Even though it’s been 9 years I remember it like it was yesterday. I was at work, discussing the $453,000.00 medical bill for my child’s hospital stay with my insurance agent. She suddenly told me to and I quote, “STFU!”. Whoa. Then she tells me to get turn on my TV; a plane has hit the Twin Towers. From that point on I felt as though I was in a dream. What? We were attacked? Who would attack us? Why would they attack us?
When it started to sink in I began to panic. What was happening? Was my family safe? I tried calling the hospital my daughter was in but the lines were busy and no call were getting through. Then my family started calling. Had I heard from my mother? She was in Pennsylvania and was scheduled to fly home. Her work had no idea where she was and she was not answering her phone. That was the long couple hours of my life.
When I got home later that night I sat down and watched the news reports. I can still remember just sitting there with tears rolling down my face as I watched people showing pictures of their loved ones; trying to find them.  After  few days I had to shut it off.  I couldn’t handle the emotional onslaught anymore.
Where were you when the world stopped?

I was in middle school when it happened. we all went into the hall acting like there was something going on with OUR building...I was too young to fully grasp but it still hit me. I kept telling myself, that's not real....and I saw the second plane hit. I can't believe the damage those people have caused...not just that day. It's STILL going on.

*hugs* I'm sorry you had it worse and i'm glad your family was safe.

I was in first period American History class in 10th grade. We were studying Pearl Harbor of all things. Then someone from another class came over and told the teacher there were airplanes missing and one crashed into a building in New York. She wouldn't even let him talk - just told him to leave our classroom. I will never forget she said "In 20 years this won't matter - they are studying American History and you need to go." In second period the lights were off and the teacher told us NO TALKING sit with your heads down and be quiet. By the time third period came everyone was talking and my fave teacher told us what was happening. I got up and just walked out of school. I went to the blood bank and donated and watched tv in shock.
