As a reader I have certain genres and authors that I gravitate to without rhyme or reason. But I do feel that there are certain books that EVERYONE needs to read at least once in their lifetime.

Totally agree with Handmaid's Tale. Not my usual type of read but this book has stayed with me for years.
I would also suggest The Bookseller of Kabul by Åsne Seierstad. You forget it's non-fiction until the end. A
