Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On

From the fields to the catwalk, blue jeans have morphed into a multi billion dollar money maker and grace every fashionistas closet from here to the wilds of Africa. Plain or bedazzled, blue jeans are a fashion statement that tells a lot about their owners. History debates whether Levi Strauss invented the first pair of blue jeans as we know them in 1853. Some say Sutter's made them first. He used the canvas for making tents to cover the delicate behind of miners during the California gold rush. Picture courtesy of www.oldestlevis.com Miners complained that the canvas chafed said delicate behinds so in 1873 Levi replaced canvas with twilled cotton cloth from France called "serge de Nimes. They were called denim and became our beloved blue jeans. *If you ever find a pair of Levis with the big "E"(LEVIS)-have them appraised by an expert. www.oldestlevis.com is a good site. You could be sitting on your child's future collage fund. Here is an interesting time line that shows how denim has fared through history. LINK Finding the perfect pair of jeans only takes a moment of your time but can save you a lot of headache. Here is a great pictorial guide from Authenticforum. It explains all the necessary measurements you need and explains how the seller is measuring the jeans you want. Here are some denim pretties from my closet-guaranteed to become a fav in yours.
