Reuse, Renew, Recycle Your Fashion

Everyone has that favorite clothing item that for various reasons has been tossed to the back of the closet and moved around each year. You don't want to get rid of it...but you don't want to wear it either. How about recycling it? The newest trend in these tough economic times is to new(recycle) your clothing into something fresh and new. Now I know some of you are imagining Jeanne Brice from QVC and thinking, "Tori, there is no way I'm bedazzling my pants." I don't blame you. Jeanne Brice decorating is best taken in small does over long periods of time. No, I'm talking about doing a little DIY on your duds. Renew. Recycle. Reuse. Now, the following pictures & information is from other sites. I don't craft. Period. I don't understand the whole scrap booking your memories thing. The crocheting of cute cuddly sweaters. Transforming your couch into a $15,000 piece of art. Some people are craft-tastic. I am more crap-tastic and we'll just leave it at that. A wonderful site that embraces all things eco is www.Ecouterre.com I love this site. On a higher end level it educates on green fashion. They have a wonderful article on recycling your orphaned accessories. One is the loneliest number. Don't throw it away. Lonely earrings becomes shoe bling. Have your pearls lost it's lust for life? Reinvent. Never sure what to do with a lone purse strap? How about a chic equestrian looking belt? Another fab site I stalk is www.prettyditty.com. This is one talented chica. And such a pretty site. Ooo la la. Got an old dress that needs a new lease on life? How about a cute scarf/shawl? Take an old skirt out of the 80s and bring it to the present. There are so many ways to to recycle and renew items. Pillowcases become chic bags. T shirts can become skirts, shrugs, tanks tops, ect... I've even seen old converse chucks made in to boots with a wool topper. I know some of you, like me, don't sew. But that's ok. A lot of these projects can be made using fabric fuse(glue). Aleene's Fabric Fusion is one of the best I have ever seen. I use it to hem my jeans. After5 washings the glue is still holding. However, if you need to add panels or do some serious reconstructing I would advise finding someone who sews or learning. If you have a wonderful recycling project you'd like to share please do. And to stay green...shop my store. New to used gently used designer clothing. Use code 10FIRSTOFF to save 10% off your purchases.
