Well, since you asked…back to school blues

Kid-I don’t wanna go back to school

Me: Why?

Kid: Because I want to stay home with you.

Me: But you need to go to school. Don’t you want to learn new things? See your friends? Be in the safely patrol?

Kid: Learning sucks. My friends suck. Safety patrol sucks.

Me: You have to go to school. You don’t want to grow up stupid do you?

Kid: I don’t care.  Why can’t you home school me?

Me: Because I have neither the patience nor the time. We’d get nothing done.

Kid: Fine with me.

Me: The law says you have to go to school and I always obey the law.

Kid: Just like you do when you drive 70 in a 55 mph zone and eat the grapes at the supermarket?

Me: Those are different.

Kid: Why?

Me: Because.

Kid: You can’t pick and choose the laws you’ll follow.

Me: And that is exactly why you need to go to school.

Kid: Huh?

Me: Exactly. Now get in the car so we can go get the rest of your school supplies.

Hey T, mine just finished their first week back to school yesterday. I swear I bought everything that they'd need, but no-gotta hit target this weekend for more stuff. Geesh! The mornings have been the worst, but when they are gone the hush that falls over the house is completely peaceful. My coffee tastes so much better! :)
