WTH Wednesday…this mom loves Schweddy Balls

If your a SNL fan like me then you’ve watched the hilarious skits featuring Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon who host “Delicious Dish,” a parody of a National Public Radio program. Alec Baldwin portrays Pete Schweddy, the fictional owner of Season’s Eatings Bakery, who explains poker-faced to the show hosts that he has a variety of “Schweddy balls” — popcorn balls, cheese balls, rum balls suited for every taste among his holiday offerings.

So Ben and Jerry’s ice cream decided to have a little fun and introduced a new flavor…drum roll please…Schweddy Balls. Available for a limited time, this delectable treat is made with Fair Trade vanilla ice cream , a hint of rum, and loaded with fudge covered rum and milk chocolate malt balls.

Sounds yummy huh?

Not to everyone.

The conservative group One Million Moms finds the new flavor offensive and is calling for a boycott. The group posts on their website,

“The vulgar new flavor has turned something as innocent as ice cream into something repulsive,” the group posted on its website. “Not exactly what you want a child asking for at the supermarket.”

Really? You One Million Moms don’t have anything better to boycott? Like, the overwhelming number of children in the US who get two of their three basic meals in SCHOOL?  How about that fact that our schools are closing, our teachers are leaving, and our kids are the ones suffering? Or maybe that suicide among our children is at it’s HIGHEST because of school and cyber bullying?

“Schweddy Balls” doesn’t seem so bad now does it?

I find it hysterical that this is being called in to question at all. I’m assuming The Million Moms are boycotting on the basis that they found it offensive to young children. This is a skit on a late night show. Young kids shouldn’t even be watching it. If they are then the name of the ice cream is the least of your problems.

So my advice here is if your kid happens to see this and says, “Mom, what is Schweddy Balls?” Tell them the truth. "It’s a new flavor of ice cream by Ben & Jerry’s and leave it at that. It’s only when you make a big deal out of it does it become one.

Things that caught my eye

It’s COACHELLA time

The 2011 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will be held April 15-17 at the Empire Polo Club, in Indio, California. Some of the headliners performing there are Kings Of Leon, The Strokes, Mumford and Sons, and Cee Lo Green.

Tickets were made available through a layaway program via the festival's official website. Ticketmaster began selling tickets on January 21, 2011. The event sold out in just five days. But rumor has it that if your search, you can still find tickets.

Vsmodels

Victoria's Secret model Candice Swanepoel came under scrutiny when she debuted the upcoming swimsuit collection with her fellow Victoria's Secret Angels this week at the Mondrian Hotel in Los Angeles. As most Victoria Secret models contracts state they are to maintain a curvy and muscular physique, Ms. Swanepoel’s current editorial fashion mag look is being called into question. Rumors are swirling she could lose her contract if she doesn’t “beef” up.

Eltonstory

Sir Elton John hosted SNL this past weekend. He is a hilarious little man. :)This was his first guest host for SNL. It is also his chance to join such greats as Betty White, Justin Timberlake, and Tina Fey who have hosted SNL and won an Emmy for it. If he gets the nod, he will become the 11th person to complete the EGOT-Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.

Tweet that made me laugh.

A new app called Creepy?

*Photo is courtesy of http://ilektrojohn.github.com

“Creepy” is a new geo locator app that allows a person to pinpoint a person’s location just by typing in their Foursquare, Twitter, Facebook, and/or Flickr user id and hitting the Geolocate Target button.

How is that bad you ask? You don’t tag your photos with names or locations you say? Well, what lot of people don’t realize is every time they share a picture on a social network using Flickr, Yfrog and Twitpic, these sites automatically record the location in the image’s EXIF data.  Creepy takes the next step of using the APIs to scan that data and display it on an easy-to-read map.

Some people will argue that the location of a single photo doesn’t reveal much about the user. But if you are an over eager beaver, sharing your life through a collage of photos, then your life becomes a clusters of location dots on Creepy that only requires someone to “connect those dots”.

Still in it’s early stages…”Creepy” is already starting to creep some people out.

Speaking of “creepy” I caught this via Babbling About Books, and More.
Learn to Play with The Breast Milk Baby

The Breast Milk Baby. According to the website…”God supports The Breast Milk Baby”. This creeps me out. Now, I don’t know about you, but teaching my 9 year old to breastfeed is NOT on my top 10 list of things to do. Childhood is just that, CHILDHOOD. Playing outside. Digging in the dirt. Catching fireflies and learning to climb trees. Not learning the correct way to breastfeed a child.

Why do we try and force our children into adulthood before they are ready? Having a baby is an adult decision that should be made by ADULTS. Showing a child how to “breastfeed” does not, in my opinion, even begin to teach a child anything about having or raising a child. I’ve seen many chats and forums where parents have stated that their child has already role played this scenario.

Really?

Sorry, but that’s just plain creepy.
