When Gage has problems with Reave’s latest request, Gage rebels, causing  a chain reaction that leads Reave to include someone from Gage’s past in his plan to bring down the Towers. Now the Towers are after Gage, figuring his sacrifice is enough to quell any uprisings. But Gage isn’t one to hide when the going gets tough. With the help of some surprising allies, Gage finds himself once again having to make the choice between himself and the world.

Of Monsters and Men by Jocelynn Drake Rating-C+

First off, let me start out by saying that this short novella is part of her Asylum series and is best read after book one-Angel’s Ink. If you haven’t read Angel’s Ink, this will spoil some things for you.

Drake takes us on a dark, satisfying trip back to Lowtown when Gage is approached by the local werewolf alpha for some help in avoiding the Wild Hunt. Action packed with Drake’s trademark dry humor makes this a welcome addition to the series; though I wish the romance would have been more forthcoming.

Angel’s Ink is the first installment in a new urban fantasy series by bestselling author Jocelyn Drake. I ADORED Ms. Drakes Nightwalker series and was excited to see her penning a new and obviously different type of series. Angel’s Ink has an  interesting premise and introduces us to a supernatural world where everything and everyone lives together; though not necessarily in harmony. Fast pacing keeps the story moving at a brisk pace as Drake sets up the arc and builds her modern magical world. Plenty of action and mystery will keep you guessing. As this is heavily character driven, I found the world building suffers as it tries to complete against the overwhelming and convoluted amount of subplots presented. I would have enjoyed learning more about the world presented, the war that brought this world to where it’s at now, and more about the various groups of supernaturals that we are introduced to.

The Asylum Interviews is a prequel to Jocelynn Drake’s newest series, The Asylum Tales, which releases its first in the series, Angel’s Ink, in October. In this short novella, we get an introduction to the series main character, Gage, and the unique fantasy world in which he lives. Drake’s new world is an alternate Earth city, (Low Town), where all supernatural entities are out in the open, mingling among the humans. Gage, a tattoo artist and owner of The Asylum Tattoo Parlor, is also a wizard. For reasons yet not revealed, rejected the wizarding world and is now under a form of house arrest. He is forbidden from using his magic under the threat of imprisonment and/or death. Gage, instead, now creates spell enhanced tattoos to give his clients little extra edge.

I am a long time fan of Ms. Drakes Dark Days series. After Burn The Night released, I wasn’t expecting to see anymore of my beloved Mira and was thrilled when I was offered this novella, Bound To Me, which talks of Mira’s younger days and her Valerio. While we only caught bits and pieces of Mira’s complicated relationship with him through the series, we always knew in the back of our minds that theirs was a love affair that affected Mira to the point where she never removed a small silver ring that he gave her many years ago.

I’m reviewing Burn The Night by Jocelynn Drake at Smexy Books

 

Burn The Night is the sixth and final book in Ms. Drake’s emotionally charged dark urban fantasy series that bled my soul and bruised my heart throughout. From my first meeting with Savannah vampire master Mira in book one-Nightwalker-I fell in love with this kick ass heroine whose long life has been filled with betrayal, deception, violence, and lies. She has been used by her enemies and her friends; always allowing it because of her innate sense of loyalty and love for those she protects. She has always maintained that her life isn’t worth the lives of those she protects. Burn The Nightbrings us full circle though; Mira starts out as a loner in Nightwalker and ends here with a chance at having a normal life with the one she loves.
