I’m reviewing Slashback by Rob Thurman at Smexybooks

Slashback (Cal Leandros #8) by Rob Thurman
Urban Fantasy
Paperback

Favorite Quote: “He touched my little brother-I stopped his heart. Seemed fair to me.“

Revenge is the name of the game when the past merges with the present. Supernatural crime fighting duo, Cal and Niko Leandros, have to use their deadly skills and talents to defeat an enemy from their past. As children, they came very close to falling victim to a serial killer. Though they defeated him, they are now faced with a much larger problem. The man they killed was merely a puppet for a much more dangerous and vicious killer-the legendary Spring-heeled Jack. Jack has never forgiven Cal and Niko for what they took from him. They owe him.

And he has come back to town to ensure they pay.

I am a huge fan of Thurman’s Cal Leandros series. Often, a series with a resolvable conflict in each book and no emotional or high impact cliffhangers to carry from book to book has a hard time maintaining beyond three installments, much less eight. Not so in here. This dark and dynamic urban fantasy series continues to not only maintain but exceeds the expectations of it’s fans.  Based on two brothers, one human and one not so human, this series has a wonderful Supernatural (show on the WB) vibe to it. Light on the romance but heavy on the bromance, this action packed series gives us more than a bang for our buck as Thurman send us headfirst back into the lives and adventures of Cal and Niko Leandros. Well-plotted and cast with characters that are strong and personable Slashback is filled with taut suspense, delicious betrayal, dry witty humor, and very dangerous antagonists. A fascinating read that captured me from page one.  Thurman does a fabulous job of exploring and continuously evolving the relationship between brothers Cal and Niko as they fight to protect each other and the good citizens of New York City.

Favorite Quote: “-vengeance has nothing to do with the Lord. Cain was wrong. I am my brother's keeper.“

Half-human/half-monster Cal Leandros knows that family is a pain. But now that pain belongs to his half-brother, Niko. Niko’s shady father is in town, and he needs a big favor. Even worse is the reunion being held by the devious Puck race—including the Leandros’ friend, Robin—featuring a lottery that no Puck wants to win.
As Cal tries to keep both Niko and Robin from paying the ultimate price for their kin, a horrific reminder from Cal’s own past arrives to remind him that blood is thicker than water—and that’s why it’s so much more fun to spill.
(Goodreads)

Caliban (Cal) Leandros knows that family is everything, apparent by his unwavering loyalty to his older brother Nikos. In Blackout, Cal had to surrender his humanity among other things in order to retrieve his memories back after a venomous spider bite him. Niko’s stood by his side the whole time, never letting Cal forget or give up. Doubletake addresses the repercussions of those decisions and the ties that bind family. When Robin hires them to “monitor” a Puck family reunion, Cal and Niko get an eyeful and then some into other supernatural family dynamics, making them think that maybe their situation isn’t so bad. Then Niko’s father, Kalakos, reappears, claiming that a monster his people have kept hidden has escaped and now searches to destroy those of Vayash blood. He needs Niko’s and Cal’s help to shut the monster down before it levels the city and everyone in it. The metal monstrosity built by Haphaestus, will require them to visit the insane God in order to retrieve the keys to shut it down. As if life weren’t chaotic enough for the Leandros brothers, Cal meets Grimm. Grimm is also a half Auphe who needs Cal and isn’t willing to take no for an answer. As Cal and Niko unite against their enemies with only a few friends to help, Cal finds himself once again having to making a decision that may finally destroy the only person he has ever loved-his brother.

I’m reviewing Rob Thurman’s Basilisk at Smexybooks

Basilisk (Chimera, #2)

Favorite Quote: “It was five months later that I finally admitted defeat, finishing what I’d started more than half a year ago, and was at my laptop, hacking into Lolcats, crashing the site, and removing any mention of it from the Net. It was evil and had to go."

Basilisk picks up 3 years after Chimera ended. Lukas-now called Michael or Misha depending on his mood- and Stefan are living in a small town under assumed names, trying to blend in and stay out of sight of the Institute. When they receive word that their father has died a violent death, Michael and Stefan know that the government may have found them and the time has come to take down the Institute and free the rest of the children there. Trying to stay one step ahead of the government agent chasing them, Stefan learns just what Michael has been up to the last three years as Michael reveals what he has really been up to in the garage. Michael has come to the conclusion that he’s a man now, albeit a 19 year old man, and must protect Stefan as Stefan has done for him the last three years. When Michael and Stefan reach the Institute they find a massacre and realize that the children have staged a coup and are taking their games out into the world. Calling in Stefan’s buddy Saul, the three of them begin a dangerous game of hide and seek with the remaining children of the Institute. The children want Michael back and will take out anyone and anything to get him.

I’m Reviewing Blackout by Rob Thurman at Smexy Books

Blackout (Cal Leandros, #6)

Favorite Quote: “Leandros...Niko, you might want to take a closer look at that picture and buy a cattle prod for when I’m all the way back because that guy is nothappy and that guy is not right.”

When Caliban (Cal) Leandros wakes up on a beach surrounded by dead monsters he knows a killer has been here. That doesn’t bother him. The fact he could be the killer doesn’t bother him. The fact he may have enjoyed killing doesn’t bother him. What bothers him is he doesn’t remember who he is...and he’s not sure he cares.

My review of The Grimrose Path by Rob Thurman is at Smexybooks.com

The Grimrose Path (A Trickster Novel #2) by Rob Thurman

31SI1Wj6SCL._SL500_AA300_
Favorite Quote: “Oranges and honey. It’s not only on you but part of you. I could lay you down in an orange grove Trixa and cover you in honey.”
“Then you would eat me and not in a way women usually care for.”

Trixa Iktomi is a trickster; a semi divine shape shifter being who is several thousand years old. Youthful in appearance and  dangerous in reality; Trixa “teaches” the naive to be wise and the shysters to beware. While Trixa will lie, deceive, omit, and generally cause mischief; she has a unique sense of right and wrong and gives only what is deserved.

She manages a bar with her best bud Leo-otherwise known as Loki- the original trickster. In the Trick Of Light-Trickster #1, Trixa and Leo hunt down an artifact and use it to extract revenge for her brothers death. Due to some mischief on Leo’s part, the artifact decided that some humility was needed and has made both Trixa and Leo “supernaturally challenged” for the next 4 years. All they have is their experience and wits to survive. Lucky for them, they have that in spades.

When Trixa is approached by Eligos for help in finding out who’s mass slaughtering the demons of hell she is naturally hesitant. Trixa lives to kills demons-not save them. But this is not an ordinary killer and Trixa will need all her skills and friends to stop this one. With Zeke, Gabriel, and a few new friends, Trixa’s response to the situation is astonishingly Machiavellian in it’s construction and confirms that she is indeed THE Trickster.

My New Book Review Is At Smexy Books

I'm at Smexybooks today reviewing Rob Thurman's new thriller Chimera.

As a rising figure in the Russian mob; his contacts have finally paid off. He has found Lukas. But soon Stefan realizes that Lukas has changed and is no longer the little brother he remembers. Brainwashed and genetically altered, Lukas is a key player in the next step of genetic evolution. As Stefan and Lukas grow closer, Stefan realizes that saving Lukas may be easier then surviving him.

I gave this 5 stars....go to Smexybooks to read the rest of my review and see why.
