My Review of Dark Road To Darjeeling by Deanna Raybourn is at Smexybooks

7870272

Favorite quote: “I thought how strange it was that I could breathe, that the birds still sang and my heart still beat, while he was not in this world. It seemed that something should have stopped...and marked the moment of his passing.”

Lady Julia Gray and detective Nicholas Brisbane are married and have spent an idyllic 8 month honeymoon abroad. But that is cut short when Julia’s eccentric sister and brother show up requesting their presences in India. Darjeeling to be exact. Portia’s former lover Lady Jane Cavendish has written to Portia expressing fear and dismay that her husband may have been murdered and she fears she and her unborn child are in next.  When the entourage arrives, Lady Julia finds secrets and deception flourish in the lush and exotic locale. As Lady Julia and Brisbane search deeper to find the snake in paradise they will have to be careful not to get bitten themselves.

This is my first foray into Deanna Raybourn’s Lady Julia series. I have not read her previous books but having heard wonderful things about it, I decided to give it a try when it was offered for review. I found it to be an enjoyable and humorous Victorian romantic suspense that revolves around two independent and VERY stubborn characters-the former widow Lady Julia Grey and her now husband Nicholas Brisbane, private inquiry agent.

Favorite quote: He moved closer as he spoke, trailing the rose over Jordan’s calf, “I’ve been very naughty.”
Jordon was just minding her own business when in the blink of an eye a car attempts to run her down and lightening strikes to send her back in time. Trapped in the past being pursued by a sexy shape shifter who wants her heart and a dark Fae who just wants her dead; Jordon is about to discover that true love can happen -in the blink of an eye.
Iron and Hemlock is a charming romantic and sexy novella about a woman from the future who is swept back into the past to help correct a wrong. Ms Dawn’s writing is smooth and and her characters tantalizing.

My New Review Is At Smexy Books

Todays review is  Healer’s Choice by Jory Strong (Ghostland #3)

healers choice

Favorite Quote: “I’ll be your first. And your last.”

Rebekka is a healer who lives in the red zone; a district filled with shape shifter brothels.Having grown up in this violent and oppressive atmosphere, her life has never been easybut she cannot abandon the outcasts who ply their trade with often disastrous results. With just a touch and thought, Rebekka can heal even the most damaged shifter. But with her gift comes a heavy price and responsibility. When five cubs become fatally ill, it is foretold that a human healer will be their salvation. Aryck, the clan’s enforcer, is sent into the red zone to find the healer and bring her back to their camp. Weres do not associate with humans or outcasts (weres trapped between forms) but from the moment Aryck and Rebekka meet, their destinies intertwine. And choices are made that will not only determine the Weres future...but that of mankind.

In Ms Strong’s third installment of her Ghostland series, Healer’s Choice, we are taken back to war torn Oakland and into the cruel brothels owned by the vice lords. Ms Strong’s intriguing and intense urban fantasy world doesn’t shield you from the horrors of war or it’s aftermath. Rather it pushes you straight into a heartbreaking yet celebratory tale that takes a look at prejudice and the strength of those who seek to rise above it. The world is split into three factions-the supes, humans, and outcasts-the outcasts being the lowest caste. Forced to serve in brothels, as payment for protection where any vice is acceptable. Born to a prostitute and unknown father, Rebekka lives in the brothels using her unique healing abilities to heal the outcasts. She works on the side to try and buy the outcast’s freedom. Soon her healing gift strengthens and she is able to actually change the outcasts-giving them the choice of form.

When word comes that the Weres are falling prey to a horrible disease Rebekka travels into Were territory where humans and outcasts are forbidden. There she meets Aryck, enforcer to the Jaguar clan. At their first meeting, Aryck’s Jaguar claims Rebekka as his mate, but the human in Aryck is dismayed. He doesn’t want a human as a mate. Humans are inferior and have no place in his world. Rebekka knows this disease is cutting a wide sweep through the Were territory. As she follows it’s path she learns more about herself and begins to change the very fabric of the Were clans society.

My New Review is at Smexybooks-Wildthorn by Jane Eagland

Todays review is Wildthorn by Jane Eagland

Favorite Quote: "The light goes out in the room. I’m in the dark again. The fear is waiting.”

Louisa never imagined that a simple trip to her new position as a governess would end with her institutionalized against her will. As she is stripped of her possessions and identity, Louisa attempts to maintain her sanity all while trying to solve the mystery of how and why she was there.

Louisa Cosgrove is a young woman born to privilege in the 19th century. Her unconventional attitude and desires often vexes and embarrasses her family. She blatantly disregards her expected role as a proper young women; disdaining marriage, conducting experiments, and voicing her opinions on being a Doctor. When her father, whom was her staunchest ally, suddenly passes away, Louisa is horrified to learn that her brother Tom has no intentions of allowing her to "shame the family" by attending medical school. Tom further hurts her by telling her that their mother feels she is not helping enough and a position has been secured for her as a governess to another family. Though she doesn't want to leave home, she does as he bides. When she arrives at Wildthorn, an insane asylum, she is bewildered to be addressed as Lucy Childs. My New Book Review Is At Smexy Books-Naked by Megan Hart

Today's review is Naked by Megan Hart.

No strings. No regrets. And no going back.

I didn't think he wanted me. And I wasn't about to get involved with him, not after what I'd heard. Sure, Alex Kennedy was tall, dark and unbearably hot, but I've been burned before. When I solicited him to model for my erotic photography book, I didn't expect such a heated, passionate photo session. And now that we've crossed that line, our bodies aren't the only things that have been exposed. But I can't give my heart to a man who's so… unconventional. His last sexual relationship was with a married couple. It's enough that my ex-fiancĂ© preferred men, I can't take that chance again no matter how much my body thrives on Alex's touch. I can't risk it, but I can't resist it, either.
Alex can be very convincing when he wants something.
And he wants me.

Olivia Hart is at a party that her gay ex fiancee is throwing with his lover. When she spies Alex Kennedy across the room she never imagines that beautiful sensual man could be hers. When her ex, Patrick, warns her off Alex saying, “He doesn’t like girls,” she leaves it at that and goes about her business. But when Alex needs an apartment for a few months and she just happens to have one to rent she soon learns that Alex does indeed like girls...and he likes her.

This story is told from Olivia’s POV. A photographer who is trying to find her way in the world and make sense of her life. Having been cheated on and made the fall guy by her ex fiance, it’s amazing she even gives Alex the time of day. She is also dealing with some long buried issues concerning her adoption, race, and religion. Alex is a self admitted ass hole who’s beautiful looks and personality have allowed him to explore and in some cases exploit his bi sexuality. But the unlikely pairing of these two of them works in such a way that we are held spell bound as we watch them battle their insecurities and stereo types to enter into an emotionally and intense sexual affair.

My New Book Review Is At Smexy Books-Labyrinth by Kat Richardson

Todays's review is Labyrinth (A Greywalker Novel #5) By Kat Richardson

Harper Blaine is a Greywalker. Having spent time in London, Harper has gained new powers. Before she can figure them out though, she arrives home to find her employer is missing and the man who killed her has himself been murdered. Harper needs to find her murderer's ghost for she believes he holds the clues to finding her father. But she soon finds herself entangled in a madman's plans to control the grey. Through her. The only way to save herself is to go into the grey, but with her increasing powers she fears she may not be able to come back.
Kat Richardson's Greywalker series is a dynamic investigative urban fantasy saga pitting ghosts, vampires, and other paranormal entities against Harper Blaine-P.I. extraordinaire. Dark and fluid, the storyline flows through you; rather like slipping through the grey yourself. Full of suspense, Ms Richardson manipulates the storyline like a maze-leaving you to follow a twisting path to discover the truth in the center. But even if you find the center...you still have to get out. This series isn't an "in your face" action story but a more subtle complex mystery with a dark paranormal twist. Labyrinth, the fifth in the series, is the catalyst for all that has transpired in the last four books.
