I’m reviewing Shalador’s Lady by Anne Bishop at Smexy Books

Shalador's Lady (The Black Jewels, #8)

Favorite Quote: “It is better to break you own heart then to break your honor.”

Shalador's Lady by Anne Bishop is the 8th book in her Black Jewels series. It is also the sequel to her 7th book, The Shadow Queen. I adore the Black Jewels series. A deliciously dark and traumatic series that celebrates the triumph of evil. Unequivocal world building sustained by dramatic and inspiring characters has gained this series it’s own keeper shelf. I would not recommend reading these out of order. The arc carries over and feeds itself through each book.

In Shalador’s Lady we see Lady Cassidy growing into herself and slowing bringing life back to a land and the people of Dena Nehale; destroyed by the previous Queens. When an enemy from Cassie’s past returns to try and once again to stake a claim on Cassie’s court, Cassie will have to fight for the land, the people, and her love to survive.

Smexy Books Review-Cruel Enchantment (Dark Magical Series #2) by Anya Bast

Favorite Quote:” How many times had he planned her death? How many weapons now hung in his forge that he’d crafted with the intention of using them on her? Mercy? He’d thought he had none for her.”

Danger Will Robinson!!! This does contain some light spoilers.

To help her race from being eradicated, Emmaline Gallagher must retrieve an object of fae power from a locked ancient box. Only Aeric O'Malley has the forging skills to create a key. But will their tumultuous past stand in the way?
Cruel Enchantment is an dark, exhilarating, sensual delight. Once again we are submerged into the beautiful devious world of the Seelie and Unseelie courts.  Well-plotted and cast with characters that are strong and personable, Cruel Enchantment is filled with tense suspense, delicious betrayal, and dangerous antagonists. A fascinating read that captured me at page one.

In Cruel Enchantment, we are introduced to Emmaline Gallagher of the Seelie Court. Emmaline spent her younger years as the most feared assassin of the Summer Queen. When she escapes the great sweep that imprisoned the courts and most fae in Piefferberg, she walked away from her past life and began to work with the HFF. Her mission? To convince Aeric O'Malley, the Blacksmith, to forge a magical key that will open an ancient box containing a fae artifact. The Problem? Emmaline killed his fiance and Aeric has vowed revenge. When Emmaline enters Piefferberg, Aeric is lying in wait for her. He ambushes her and spirits her off to his home.

Emmaline’s mission must be completed but Aeric has dreamed of having her in his power for hundreds of years and nothing will convince him to set her free. As Emmaline and Aeric begin their battle, striking blows with words as sharp as the finest crafted blade, you hear their memories and see that both were victims of extremely sadistic and selfish people. When old and new feelings emerge between them, Aeric and Emmaline must look to the past if they are ever to have a future. But Aeric isn’t the only one who wants Emmaline dead. Most of the Unseelie court has suffered in some way due to her dubious past and the Summer Queen wants her assassin back.

My New Book Review Is At Smexy Books-The Cost Of Love by Drue Allen

Todays review is The Cost Of Love by Drue Allen

Favorite quote: “If I’m staring, it’s at that ancient Glock. Why not just carry around a rock to whack people with?”

Agent Dean Dresler has seen it all. Or so he thought. But when he is shown his assignment, a bio terrorism victim, Dean realizes that this maybe bigger then he has ever dealt with before.
A bio terrorist group has declared war on the United States and intel narrows them down to Roswell, NM. Dean can’t so this alone so he is given a new partner. Dr. Lucinda Brown.
Though she has no field experience, she is the leading expert in molecular biology and now Dean’s new partner. Dean does not want the responsibility he feels towards Lucy and tries to get rid of her.  But soon she proves invaluable to him.
As Dean and Lucy begin their dangerous mission, they also begin an affair that surpasses all their expectations. When the final showdown begins, Dean and Lucy will have to make the ultimate choice between their country and their love.

The Cost of Love is a fascinating foray into the grim and chilling war of domestic terrorism. Ms Allen’s superb world building skills paints a vivid and realistic portrait of the men and woman who fight in secret against those who seek to destroy us. The story line’s elaborate twists and turns provides a suspenseful tension filled read that draws you in. The realism of the plot had me on edge till the very last page.

My New Book Review Is At Smexy Books-And One Last Thing by Molly Harper

Today's review is on And One Last Thing.by Molly Harper.

And One Last Thing ...

Lacey Terwilliger had everything. A good husband, a wonderful home, a solid marriage. Or so she thought.
But when the town drunk aka florist delivers flowers to her that were meant for her husband's mistress...well, hell hath no fury like a women scorned. As Lacey stews in anger and disbelief, her husband Mike reminds her that the newsletter they send to clients and family is due. Lacey decides that this is definitely newsworthy and proceeds to share the whole sordid story with their family, friends, and clients. The fallout over her escapade requires her to leave town and "hide" out the family lake house. While there she meets the reclusive crime author "Lefty" Monroe. Lefty doesn't want the drama of a divorcee but soon he and Lacey have a meeting of the minds and other things that leave them both satisfied. As Lacey tries to deal with family, lawyers, and her soon to be ex husband...she soon finds that the best revenge in the world is letting go.

Written along the same lines as Jennifer Cruise; And One Last Thing is one woman's hilarious response to an age old dilemma. A delightful contemporary filled with love, laughter, and snarkiness. A smooth quick read with witty dialog that doesn't disappoint.

My New Book Review Is At Smexy Books-Labyrinth by Kat Richardson

Todays's review is Labyrinth (A Greywalker Novel #5) By Kat Richardson

Harper Blaine is a Greywalker. Having spent time in London, Harper has gained new powers. Before she can figure them out though, she arrives home to find her employer is missing and the man who killed her has himself been murdered. Harper needs to find her murderer's ghost for she believes he holds the clues to finding her father. But she soon finds herself entangled in a madman's plans to control the grey. Through her. The only way to save herself is to go into the grey, but with her increasing powers she fears she may not be able to come back.
Kat Richardson's Greywalker series is a dynamic investigative urban fantasy saga pitting ghosts, vampires, and other paranormal entities against Harper Blaine-P.I. extraordinaire. Dark and fluid, the storyline flows through you; rather like slipping through the grey yourself. Full of suspense, Ms Richardson manipulates the storyline like a maze-leaving you to follow a twisting path to discover the truth in the center. But even if you find the center...you still have to get out. This series isn't an "in your face" action story but a more subtle complex mystery with a dark paranormal twist. Labyrinth, the fifth in the series, is the catalyst for all that has transpired in the last four books.
