I’m reviewing Along Came A Spider at Smexybooks

alongcameaspider

Along Came A Spider (Transplanted Tales #3) by Kate SeRine
Paranormal Romance
August 1, 2013
Kensington

Favorite Quote: ““Rise and shine, Sleeping Beauty.”

“Wrong fairytale, you idiot.”

Trish “Little Miss” Muffet has loved Nicky “Little Boy” Blue since she was snatched from Make Believe and sent to the Here and Now. But fate had different plans for the two of them and Trish resigned herself to crushing on him from afar. When she is attacked at a crime scene, she is shocked her rescuer is none other than Nicky. Nicky has been missing for two years after he was viciously attacked and his wife killed. Now a vigilante that goes by the moniker “the spider”, Nicky is taking down predators on his way to his ultimate target-Vlad Dracula-the man who ordered the hit on him and his wife. And he needs Trish’s help.

Trish doesn’t believe in Nicky’s renegade way of doling out justice, but she agrees Vlad needs taking down. As Trish and Nicky work together to capture the rogue vampire, the heat that has always simmered between them blazes into a smoldering inferno, but Nicky has no plans to remain in town after his job is done.  With danger coming at them from all sides, Trish knows the only man who can save her is a prickly spider whose touch leaves her breathless. Can Little Miss Muffet convince Little Boy Blue to come sit on her tuffet with her or will fear of the unknown scare them both away?

I’m reviewing Grave Secret by Sierra Dean at Smexybooks

gravesecretGrave Secret (Secret McQueen #5) by Sierra Dean
Urban Fantasy
March 19, 2013
Samhain

Favorite Quote: “Actions and consequences.”

Oh. My. Spoilers ahead.

Karma’s a bitch.

At the end of Keeping Secret, we learned that Lucas Raintree is the arse we have always thought he was when he leaves Secret standing at the altar while he handles a small problem for her uncle. He sends Desmond to inform Secret of his defection. *gasp* Though, I have to admit, a small part of me smirked and thought, “You totally deserved this, Secret.”

In Grave Secret, Secret is dealing with her anger towards Lucas by really not dealing with it. She ignores his calls, refuses to accept his apologies, and has essentially declared him persona non grata in her life. She is working to get Desmond back in her life and bed again when Lucas, like the bad penny he is, shows up and informs her that his sister, Kellon, is missing and as pack enforcer and his were queen, (they are bound together regardless of the actually wedding), she needs to find her. Secret is also investigating a rash of murders involving teenagers where her bff Callippe looks to be prime suspect number one, and Secret’s mother is back and wants Secret’s crown…preferably with her head attached to it.

I’m reviewing The Origin by Wilette Youkey at Smexybooks

The Origin (The Origin #1)

The Origin by Wilette Youkey
Urban Fantasy
Ebook
February 27, 2012
Phoenix House Publishing

Favorite Quote: “She had changed, he made sure of that. “

He may have super powers, but his is no hero's story...

For someone who has no idea how he acquired his special abilities, all Daniel wants is to live a simple, emotionally detached life. He has a quiet day job, a solo night job and no social life to speak of, and that's just the way he likes it.

That is until Olivia King, a woman from a past he'd rather leave behind, talks her way back into his life and he discovers that he is neither strong nor fast enough to fight off the attraction. Just when he finally accepts that she could be a permanent fixture in his life, Olivia disappears and he upends New York City to try and save the day. But when being honorable doesn’t get him results, Daniel yields to the dark pull of his powers, committing unspeakable acts in order to rescue the only person he’s trusted with his secrets. And just when his life could not possibly get more complicated, a psychic delivers some damning news that will pit his own happiness against the safety of those around him.

Daniel has never considered himself a hero, but in the end, as he looks at the blood on his hands, he wonders if he isn’t the villain of the story after all.(Goodreads)

Our hero, Daniel Johnson, is a dark, broody, emotionally tortured young man who views his special powers as a curse. He never asked for the abilities to save the world and struggles to define exactly what he is. Rather like Batman in the Dark Knight; he is not a bright shining beacon of goodness. He doesn’t fight evil because he is inherently good but because he reluctantly feels he should. When a young woman from his past enters his life, he struggles to keep his distance. He fears emotional attachments and that he will inadvertently hurt her. But Olivia is determined to break through his shell and soon Daniel finds himself falling in love and accepting a future with her. That is until Olivia is kidnapped. Daniel crosses all the lines he has drawn for himself in his search for her and is left questioning if he is the hero or the villain.

I’m reviewing Until I Die by Amy Plum at Smexybooks

Until I Die (Revenants, #2)

Until I Die (Revenants #2) By Amy Plum
YA Paranormal Romance
May 8, 2012
HarperCollins Publishing

Favorite Quote: “I closed my eyes and wished nothing would ever change. That time would stop and we could stay like this forever.“

Until I Die is the second book in Ms. Plum’s luscious mythological world of revenants. Romantic and intriguing, this YA continues to capture the youthful voice of her characters without miring it down with over affected emo prose and the ‘woe is me’ that is sometimes present in a teen romance. Smooth writing and a steady pace made this easy to follow and relate to. I found myself at the end before I knew it. If I were to label this book, it would be a bridge between book one and book three- the final book. Arc and character development exist, but the majority of the book focuses on giving us needed information and setting up for the finale. It does make for slow passage at times.

Situated in Paris, Ms. Plum weaves her tale set among the grace and old world charm of one of the most romantic cities in the world. The strong world building in Die For Me continues, giving us more information and background into the history of the Revenants. Revenants are select individuals who are predisposed to give up their lives for others; only to be reborn again and again. We are reminded in here that they can indeed die and stay dead for eternity if the right methods are used. I enjoy the time and patience that Ms. Plum uses to produce a story all her own.
