I’m reviewing Jennifer Estep’s Deadly Sting with May at Smexybooks

Deadly Sting by Jennifer Estep (Elemental Assassin #8)
Releases: March 26, 2013
Urban Fantasy

Reviewed by Tori and May

Red is definitely my color. Good thing, because in my line of work, I end up wearing it a lot.

Most people shy away from blood, but for an assassin like me— Gin Blanco, aka the Spider—it’s just part of the job. Still, it would be nice to get a night off, especially when I’m attending the biggest gala event of the summer at Briartop, Ashland’s fanciest art museum. But it’s just not meant to be. For this exhibition of my late nemesis’s priceless possessions is not only the place to be seen, but the place to be robbed and taken hostage at gunpoint as well. No sooner did I get my champagne than a bunch of the unluckiest thieves ever burst into the museum and started looting the place.

Unlucky why? Because I brought along a couple of knives in addition to my killer dress. Add these to my Ice and Stone magic, and nothing makes me happier than showing the bad guys why red really is my color.

I’m reviewing Kristen Ashley’s Raid at Smexy Books.

raidRaid (Unfinished Heroes #3) by Kristen Ashley
Contemporary Romance

Favorite Quote: “You’re my reward.“

Hanna Boudreaux lives in the small town of Willow, Colorado and has spent her life crushing on the gorgeous larger than life hometown hero, Raiden Ulysses Miller. Raid left Willow at age eighteen, joining the Marines and returned a little quieter and a lot more dangerous.

When Hanna finally decides to stop “stalking” Raid and begins to live her own life to the fullest, the changes are instantly noticed by all…especially Raid. But Hanna can’t figure out Raid’s sudden interest. Is it her new look? Her new outlook on life? Or does Raid have more sinister motives?

I’ll tell you all right now, before I go any further, I am a HUGE Kristen Ashley fan. When a blogger friend told me I had to read Sweet Dreams and read it RIGHT NOW, I bulked at first but eventually broke down and a crazy stalker fan girl was made. I glommed her entire back list in about one week. I emerged stinky but triumphant. Regardless of the overblown, drawn out descriptions, and larger than life premises and characters, Kristen Ashley has a gift for storytelling. Her books are a cracktacular beautiful addictive hot mess adventure that suck you in, hold you hostage, and leave you feeling rueful when the journey is over.

Raid is the third book in Ashley’s Unfinished Hero series. Even though it’s shorter than her previous books, you still get Ashley’s trademark alpha hero, somewhat naive heroine, and a smoking hot romance.

I’m reviewing Blue Blooded Vamp by Jaye Wells at Smexybooks

Blue-Blooded Vamp (Sabina Kane, #5)

Blue Blooded Vamp (Sabina Kane #5) by Jaye Wells

Favorite Quote: “It’d be super embarrassing if you got eaten ten steps away from your destiny“

The epic conclusion to the amazing Sabina Kane urban fantasy series. Sabina Kane is on the hunt. Her prey: Cain, the father of the vampire race and the one who murdered her family and her friends. Unfortunately, Cain is hunting Sabina, too. The one man who holds the key to defeating Cain is, of course, Abel. A mage with secrets to spare and, hopefully, the power to match it. Unfortunately, for Sabina, he's in Rome and may not want to be found. Sabina sets out for Italy with her friends, Giguhl and Adam Lazarus, to track down the only man who can get her the revenge she hungers for. But will he help her or oppose her? And just who is Abel, really? Worst of all, when Sabina figures out the goddess Lilith has a plan for her-she realizes this trip is getting deadlier by the minute. As they say: when in Rome-SURVIVE. (Goodreads)

Blue Blooded Vamp is the conclusion to the wild ride of Sabina Kane-vampire assassin and mage extraordinaire. An addicting noir Urban Fantasy blend of horror and humor. This series has led me on an intoxicating roller coaster ride of infinite proportions. Deception and lies are the sediments this series is based upon and Ms. Wells wields her pen like a fine double edged sword. She cuts and slices her characters down to the bone; allowing no quarter. Yet, from the carnage she rebuilds them and us; allowing for truth and courage to shine through. Throughout this series you will laugh, groan, shudder, cheer, and weep as you follow Sabina through her trials and tribulations. Yet for all the pain Ms. Well’s puts Sabina and the reader through, she never allows Sabina  to make herself a martyr. She places Sabina time and time again at odds with her humanity; never letting her forget her monster side. Sabina makes mistakes and bad decisions and she pays for those, but you never get the feeling that she doesn’t learn anything from them. The good and bad balances perfectly and it what made me a convert of this series.

When bones are found by a couple of boys in park,  Detective’s Kier and Garrison learn that they belong to a semi famous actress who ties to a previous case & suspect make them suspicious. When another body is found, Angie Carlson drawn into the case when the body is identified as a former prostitute that Angie cross examined during a trial. A trial that released a suspect Kier had worked hard to put away. The connection between Angie and the dead bodies has Kier thinking that  Angie will be the killer’s next victim. Through out the investigation, past and present emerge and collide with staggering revelations that will leave you stunned at the convoluted set up of this plot.

I’m Reviewing Hexbound by Chloe Neill at Smexy Books

Favorite Quote:”Well, we’re in the convent and they’re in the convent. That’s two too many people in the convent.”

Lily Parker has had to grow up hard and fast since arriving at St. Sophia’s School for girls. Previous events (see Firespell) opened a whole new world for Lily; showing her new and dangerous things about her friends and herself. But now she is adapting to being an Adept and trying to control her newly found Firespell powers. She is still concerned about her parents activities and Sebastian. When Lily and the other Adepts are doing a normal sweep through the tunnels under Chicago they are attacked by creatures they have never seen before. As Lily and her friends investigate this new development, Lily is given some information that raises questions about the Dark Elites, the Reapers, and everything she has been taught so far.

Manic Monday

It’s another Manic Monday in Gigi’s household.

Have you heard about Elle Magazine’s 21 Days to a More Youthful You? It’s a 21 days challange to help create a more youthful stress less you. I’m trying it because my life is stressful.  Today’s first tip is:
Day 1: Pick Up a Jump Rope
youthful-21days-01
I can do that. Only, they don’t tell you how long. Or if your suppose to do it everyday.

I spent the weekend lusting all of the latest runway and accessories galleries from Milan, including Gianfranco Ferré, Moschino, Versace, and Blugirl. Moschino stacked models' wrists with thick gold and ceramic bangles and showed studded quilted purses. Blugirl's ruffles, polka dots, and hair bows made smiling models look like they'd just been dipped in Spring, while sequins and beading jazzed up simple shift dresses at Gianfranco Ferré.

I will be reviewing the following books this week at Smexy Books so come on over and take a look:
Foyles_Soho
Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare, The Grimrose Path by Rob Thurman, and Path Of The Sun by Violetta Malan.

SQUEEE!!! I have been given a fantastic opportunity to review a product from CSN Stores, a HUGE 200 store plus website with EVERYTHING you could ever want and some you never even thought about. I’m having a hard time deciding between fashion (handbags and shoes) or furniture (I really need a new bookcase). What do you think? Let me know. :)

I’m in debates right now about purchasing a new e reader. Even though my Sony isn’t even 4 months old…I feel the need for more bang for my buck. I have been looking at the irobot apad. It is a google android powered e reader designed along the same lines as the ipad but for 1/2 the cost.

But then I’m also leaning towards the new Kindle. Decisions….decisions… Regardless, should I get one I will be offering my  e reader in a giveaway. :)

That’s it for my Manic Monday. Have a great week and remember folks,  “They can kill you, but they can’t eat you.”

Manic Monday!!!!!!!!

Kidlet is finally well enough to go back to school. YEA!! Not that I don't enjoy my child being home but it always seems to morph from, "Mommy...I'm sick," to "Mommy, I'm feeling better now but I'd still like for you to wait on me hand and foot because I love you and this is how I show it."

Thursday 9/23 I will announce the winner of my RALPH LAUREN giveaway. Contest ends at midnight 9/22 so you still have plenty of time to enter. :)

I have 4 reviews up today at Smexybooks this week:
Riding The Night by Jaci Burton
The Reapers Are The Angels by Alden Bell
Queen of Shadows by Diane Sylvan
Taken By Midnight by Lara Adrian

Currently reading Meljean Brook's Iron Duke...one of the most anticipated steampunk romance fantasy novels of the year.

Later on this week I will be looking at what the stores will be offering this Fall based on showings from New York's fashion week last week, showing you new offerings from my store,  new view on WTH Wednesday, and some tempting items that I cannot live without.

Cruel Enchantment by Anya Bast-9/14

I’m currently reading Mind Games by Carolyn Crane. Hilarious!! It’s an Urban Fantasy about a young woman who is a hypochondriac. When she is approached by a group of disillusionists who want her to use her, urrr, “gift” for good she jumps at the chance to be normal and happy. But never look at gift horse in the mouth. When something seems to good to be true…it usually it.

We have more cashmere coming to Gigi’s Consignment Closet. Pink + tiny =PERFECT! Also Melinda Eng, Sacred Threads, and BCBG Max & Cleo. I will be also adding more coats to help usher in the cooler weather. Lush wools with fur trim, bright leathers, and cute toggles for my preppy crowd.

I have 4, count them, 4 doctor’s appointments this week. 1 for kidlet, 1 for me, and 2 for hubby. Why did I schedule 4 in one week? Cause I’m stoopid. :) The worse part? They are all over the place. I need all our doctor’s to move into one building.

My New Book Review Is At Smexy Books-Petty Like A God by Brian Fatah Steele

Todays review is Petty Like A God by Brian Fatah Steele.

Meet Noc, the reluctant son of the Grim Reaper. He and Father Time's kid are usually drunk. It's one of the best ways to handle being a godling. The rest of the gang are here tonight as well. Too bad one of them is about to be murdered. Follow them from death & betrayal, to love & friendship, spiraling all the way up to a cosmic conspiracy. Join the godlings as they discover more about the roles that they will one day play in the universe, and ultimately; the roles they play in each others' lives.

Petty Like  A God is the first book in Brian Fatah Steele’s godlings series. Here we meet thegodlings-son’s and daughters of the Gods. Using an interesting mixture of mythology and religion, Steele takes us on a hilarious yet often retrospective journey through the godlings lives, trials, and bar hopping..

The story settles around Noc and his favorite bar. Noc, Nocturnal, is the son of the Grim Reaper. Pushing 500 plus years old, he is not ready to settle down and become the bringer of Death. His best friend and drinking partner, Turney, is the son of Saturn aka Father Time. While he is ready for the ascension...he's not ready to give up the beer and the chicks just yet. There is also Emma the daughter of Mother Nature, Sophie the daughter of the Sandman, Mina and Martin the twins of War, and the newest addition, Evie the daughter of Satan.

Amidst the drinking and dancing, a fellow godling is murdered. Since the bar they are in hampers all magic but a godlings, the consensus is that they was murdered by another godling. The scooby gang gets together and proceed to find out the who and why of the murder.
When Noc’s dad approaches them about solving a series of murders and disappearances they once again use their powers, minds, and friendship in an exciting action filled adventure that spans continents and realities.

My New Book Review Is At Smexy Books-Fallen Embers by Lauri Owens

Todays review is Fallen Embers by Lauri Owens.

Favorite Quote: "Fury consumed her, comforted her, caressed her. The fire was her heart and it was burning. She wanted to strike out, ease her fear...but she couldn't seem to remember anything but the rage."

A violent attack leaves a young attorney and her nephew in an alternate time ruled by a class of decadent mages who have enslaved the shape changing indigenous peoples.
As war looms, Kiera must learn to survive in this new world. Whom can she trust -- Marco, the young mage she saves, or fierce and handsome Laszlo, the slave captain of Lord Vayu's army?
Kiera's harrowing journey leads her to joy and to heartbreak. Choosing the wrong side may cost her everything.

When Keira and her nephew are attacked by a dog, they awake in an alternative version of Alaska. As she struggles to gain her bearings, she comes across 3 children being attacked by soldiers. When she attempts to save the children she gets her first taste of the magic that suddenly flows through her body. She commands fire. As she holds back the soldiers from the children, she meets the gorgeous Captain Laszlo. Captain of his Lord's army, he invites her and the children to travel with the Army. While traveling with the Army Kiera learns more about the world she has arrived in and fears for hers and Alex's safety.

It is a feudal time where man is king, slavery is permitted, and women are chattel.
When she arrives at her destination she finds herself detained by deception, promises, and love when she once more saves a child's life. Kiera chafes at the luxury she sees in the opulent world of the ruling class she sees being obtained on the backs of the enslaved shape shifters. Cruelty and decadence rules this empire and it's inhabitants.

As Kiera tries to cope with magic, parenting, and love she also unwillingly enters the political arena through a series of small but socially conscientious acts. Rebellion soon sweeps through land and Kiera is swept along with it along with her lover, Captain Laszlo and Marco, the royal child she saved But betrayal is a fine edged sword and soon Kiera is unable to distinguish between those who will help her and those who want her dead.

I have 5 book reviews for you this week.

The Cost of Love (Five Star Expressions) Timeless When Blood Calls Petty Like A God: book one of the godlings trilogy Chosen (Anna Strong Chronicles, Book 6)

Kidlet went back to school today.

Is it just me that has anxiety attacks during the time? At the beginning of every school year I am so paranoid for about 2 weeks. I fear the worse. Kidnapping, school terrorist attacks, fire, flood, plague. I'm not sure what's wrong with me because non e of this has ever happened. It's like I have to retrain myself every year to allow her to go somewhere with out me. *sigh*  So if I seem weird, it's ok. It's just my kid going back to school. I'll be ok in about 2 weeks.

It is my grandma's birthday day this week. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDMA!!!!!
My mom called me weeks ago to remind me to get her a Happy Birthday card.
My response, "Duh mom...Im40yearsoldIthinkcanremembermygramndmasbirthday."
Of course I forgot to get her a card. *sigh*

2 FABULOUS must have books come out Tuesday...
