5 things for Monday

1. Three Woman Warriors Win The Nobel Peace Prize

11nobel-span-articleLarge

The 2011 Nobel Peace Prize was presented to three activists and political leaders on Saturday for “their nonviolent struggle for the safety of women and for women’s rights” as peacemakers. The awards were presented to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, 73; her compatriot Leymah Gbowee, 39, a social worker and a peace activist; and Tawakkol Karman, a Yemeni journalist and a political activist who, at 32, is the youngest Peace Prize laureate and the first Arab woman to receive the award.

In a statement announcing the award winners on Oct. 7, the Nobel committee said it hoped the prize would “help to bring an end to the suppression of women that still occurs in many countries.”

2. Why Romance Novels Are Dangerous

A fabulous video that explains the danger of romance novels.

3. Orange You Glad the Color for 2012 Is Tangerine?

Pantone has spoken and the new hot color for 2012 is Tangerine Tango.
Quoted as being an electric orange red that is  warm, uplifting, and energizing, and it happens to look great with almost every skin tone. Fashion designers have already incorporated the color into their 2012 Spring lines.

4. Fergie Gave Me A Sad

Never mind she wears some god awful clothing-the fact she willing went out in public wearing a dress she couldn’t zip close makes me very sad for her.

5. Whew! The Penguins Are Nekkid Again

The penguins that were lovingly clothed in sweaters to prevent them from preening toxins off their feathers following an oil spill near New Zealand are running around nekkid once again. Good Morning America shouwed a video of the more than 300 affected penguins being released back into the wild, now wearing microchips. Each had to pass a "check-up and six hour swim test to show they're regaining their natural water-proofing."

Awwww. You can watch the video here.

Halloween isn’t just the time for ghosts, ghouls, and other scary creatures that go bump in the night. It’s also the time to eat some tasty treats. Here are some cute, abet creepy cupcakes that my kid loves.

Easy to make and easy to eat. Find these instructions and other ghoulish delights here.

I think this is adorable. Baby confuses magazine with ipad and can’t figure out why it’s not working. Some people have bashed ipad and her parents over it but seriously folks…all babies reach for, touch, feel, pound, and sometimes lick the pictures. It has more to do with depth perception then anything else.

As a self professed horror movie buff and it being so close to Halloween, I decided to make up a list of my top five scariest movies.

1. The Shining.  Jack Nicholson scared the tee total crap out of of me in this movie. He’s so blase about his descent into madness that it makes it 10 times scarier. And lets not forget about his creepy son and Tony the talking finger. Hello?  To this day I will NOT stay in a room numbered 237.

2. The Omen. I will still only watch it with all the lights on, a pillow over my face, and someone has to stay next to me the whole time. It also has me avoiding any one named Damien.

3. Amityville Horror. I don’t care if the shite was faked or not…that house freaked me out!!!

pennywise

4. IT. I think everyone hated clowns and Maine after this movie released.

5. Psycho-the Hitchcock version. I took baths for YEARS after seeing this film.

5 things for Monday

Fall is upon us and here are 5 top trends that should be on your “must have “ list.

Hail Victoria!

hailvictoria-00
Sarah Burton sent dozens of royal looks down Alexander McQueen’s runway, while Giles built pleated collars atop black mourning gown. And now that Deyrolle, the legendary Paris taxidermy shop, is collaborating with Opening Ceremony.

Menswear 101

  wellsuited-00
Forget boyfriend jeans and button-down shirts: This season’s borrow-from-the-boys trend demands a gifted tailor. Think rich black velvet, and don’t be afraid to accessorize with a floppy bow-tie collar and bowler hat.

Mod You Look

modsquad-00

A ’60s vibe is seeping onto runways. To really nail the trend, channel the midcentury chic of Helen Gurley Brown, Cosmopolitan’s legendary editor-in-chief, whose neat skirts and proper pumps defined what a high-powered woman looked like in the early ‘60s.

Biker Chic

easyrider-00

You don’t need a bike to wear this season’s biker trend. Leather is hot and this Fall you can go all out channeling you inner Easy Rider.

Mad For Plaid

greatscot-00

When designers as diverse as Rag & Bone and Sonia Rykiel fill their runways with plaid, there’s a good chance you’ll want to give checks a chance come fall.

5 things for Monday

Well, we were spared the wrath of hurricane Irene here in Florida. I believe it was because I went and bought some skittles as part of our hurricane supplies box.

Skittles power-taste the rainbow. :)

I watched part of MTV’s VMAs last night. Some of the performances were good and some were crap. Literally crap. If your not going to give your best, then don’t perform. Remember, I have 168 other channels to choose from.  A Tribute To Britney Spears
Oh yes…congrats to Beyonce and Jay Z on their announcement.

5 things for Monday

Kid went back to school today. She was 1 part excited and 3 parts unhappy.

KMM Fever Series + Disney= a possible WTF???

Having read the entire Karen Marie Moning Fever series, I have to honestly say I don’t see a good outcome for this. While I’m happy that Ms. Moning received this fabulous offer, I just don’t know. One, the books are very dark, violent, and sensual. Hello-PYI-RA?? Two, Disney? Really? Actually it’s Dreamworks that picked it up as they are looking to open a fantasy division that can produce similar successes like Harry Potter and  Lord of the Rings. Still, I just don’t see how the books will translate well to film. I mean book 4, chapter 4??? Hello? I’d pay BIG to see that on the big scene but Dreamworks doesn’t do porn as far as I know. And that is pure erotic OMG wet panty porn. I guess, I’ll just have to wait and see. I will add that if I had a choice on who to cast for Jerico Z.Barrons, I’d say Eric Etebari. YUM!!!!

Kim Kardashian ties the knot.

Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian married Kris Humphries on Saturday in a wedding estimated at $20 million dollars. TWENTY MILLION DOLLARS! Holy waste of money batman. The rings alone cost a cool $2 million. I seriously cannot imagine spending that much money on a wedding. Hell, I can’t imagine spending that much money on anything. Ah well, I wish them all the best.

I don’t need this &*^%^$

Floridians are being told to keep an eye on Tropical Storm Irene, which could strengthen into a hurricane and strike the state on Thursday, the National Hurricane Center said.

Nearly all the Florida peninsula lies within the path predicted for the five-day forecast, the Florida Emergency Management agency said Sunday in its emergency update. Irene is expected to move into the Florida straits on Wednesday or Thursday and then move over southern Florida early Friday.

EEEKKKK!!! As Antonio Dobson would say, “Hide your kids, hide your wife and hide your husband!”

One of my picks for 2011 book of the year

The Rift Walker (Vampire Empire, Book 2)

I finished The Rift Walker by Clay & Susan Griffith this weekend. The 2nd installment of this mind blowing Vampire Empire saga; this one is even better then the first of the series The Greyfriar. Though I will be reviewing this in September for smexybooks, my advice is to NOT to miss this series. A wondrous horrific gothic fantasy tale of vampires, their human prey, a war to end all wars, and a love affair that defies convention.

5 things for Monday

Eminem and Royce Da 5’9 with Skylar Grey headlined at Lollapalooza in the Windy City this weekend and I heard they brought da house down!
On a sad note, Dreamworks nixed Eminem’s comeback film Southpaw. Speculation is that there have been just to many boxing movies in the last few years.
Boooo Dreamworks!

a_250x375
Lady Gag stunned the world by showing up to dinner looking, well, normal. Dressing in Versace’s Fall 2011 collection dress and accessorized with black pumps, gold jewelry, and a tiny clutch…I have to wonder…is this REALLY Lady Gaga. Sources say yes it is. What do you think? Yea or Nay?

Ok. So everyone remember the HUGE stink Kim Kardashian made about Old Navy and is suing them, claiming they knowing using a young lady who looked remarkable like her to increase their sales. Go here for details.
Well, apparently, the shoe is on the other foot and now the Kardashians and Sears have some ‘splaining to do.

a_560x375

Monica Botkier, designer, noticed that her "Clyde" bag looked almost identical to one of the Kardashians' designs (the real Botkier is on the left). Ms. Botkier don’t play neither. Fashionista reports that Botkier has sent Sears a “cease and desist” letter and is seeking help from the CFDA's "You Can't Fake Fashion" campaign against counterfeiters. Sears has since removed the offensive bag.

They are called fancy dwarf hamsters. Only 2 weeks old, we adopted these 3 siblings from Petco. T couldn’t stand to separate them. *sigh*
Very friendly little buggers though. My kid named them ketsup, mustard, and relish. LMAO. She said that way she didn’t have to figure out who was male or female.

5 things for Monday

“Bueller…Bueller…Bueller….” Who doesn’t remember the hilarious 80s movie about a high school senior who decides that he, along with his girl friend and his best friend, need a day off from school? To celebrate the 25th anniversary of this cult classic, I leave you with one of my fav scenes from the movie.

Best Prayer EVAH!

If your a Nascar fan then you know there is a prayer before each race to ensure the safety of the drivers and the fans. Paster Joe Helms decided that he wanted to be a little different this go around and show fans that not all Christians are sticks in the mud. Some found his pray offense, but me…I found it hilarious and all in good fun.

Some people just need to lighten up.

Awwww…I haz a sad :(

0726-jesse-james-kat-von-d-05-480x720

This awesome-licious couple (yes, I’m being sarcastic) have decided to call it quits. The couple is claiming that the long distance between them is at fault. Ummm…your only a state or 2 away from each other. I’m thinking someone wised up and thought to themselves…, “Hmmm, he’s been married 3 times, has cheated on all 3 woman, likes strippers, and has problems with woman who are more famous or make more money then him.”

Retribution (Dark-Hunter Series #20) by Sherrilyn Kenyon: Book Cover

SQUEEE!!! SLK’s newest Dark Hunter book-Retribution-releases August 2.

A hired gunslinger, William Jessup Brady lived his life with one foot in the grave. He believed that every life had a price. Until the day when he finally found a reason to live. In one single act of brutal betrayal, he lost everything, including his life. Brought back by a Greek goddess to be one of her Dark-Hunters, he gave his immortal soul for vengeance and swore he’d spend eternity protecting the humans he’d once considered prey.  Orphaned as a toddler, Abigail Yager was taken in by a family of vampires and raised on one belief—Dark-Hunters are the evil who prey on both their people and mankind, and they must all be destroyed. While protecting her adoptive race, she has spent her life eliminating the Dark-Hunters and training for the day when she meeting the man who killed her family: Jess Brady.A gun in the hand is worth two in the holster…Jess has been charged with finding and terminating the creature who’s assassinating Dark-Hunters. The last thing he expects to find is a human face behind the killings, but when that face bears a striking resemblance to the one who murdered him centuries ago, he knows something evil is going on. He also knows he’s not the one who killed her parents. But Abigail refuses to believe the truth…

The kid and I are heading to North Carolina this week to visit with my mom and spend some quality time shopping before school starts. :) We are taking the train. amtrak-train

This is one place we will be going. Sliding Rock. Sliding Rock is a 60' natural rock slide with a 6-7 foot deep pool at the base.

5 things for Monday

amy_winehouse02-520x520

The troubled singer Amy Winehouse joined the 27 club when she passed away in her London home July 23. An English singer-songwriter known for her powerful contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres including R&B,soul and jazz, she is credited for influencing the recent rise of popularity of female musicians and soul music. With 5 grammys under her belt, Amy Winehouse was just starting to show the world her infinite talent, but a life time use of drug and alcohol finally took it’s toll and the world has lost another gifted soul.

We can only hope she is finally at peace.
